LIBRARY HOURS

This year, our physical library facility is under construction. Until we open, Roosevelt High School is housing our physical collection in its library.  That library is open to our students and staff:

WEDNESDAYS       8am to Noon.

Our virtual collections (eBooks, electronic databases, subject specific libguides) are available 24 hours per day via our library website and Clever.

Our librarian is available to support classroom instruction, reading advocacy and information resources throughout the traditional school day. She is based on the Roosevelt campus and travels to the Garnett Patterson campus on an as needed basis. She is available to collaboratively plan or book chat, in person, via Teams chat and by email.  Please allow 24 hours for email responses.

THE BASICS

There is a plethora of virtual and inhouse resources available to help you when researching, studying or reading.  Our suggestion is that you start with these four information sources. Think of them are your best friends.

1. DESTINY CATALOG -

The gateway to all our collections of electronic books. Here you can search for, check out or reserve any thing on our virtual shelves. Plus, you can access vetted, subject-specific websites and articles that match your search. (Just select Roosevelt STAY from the list of PROGRAMS.) To quickly find eBooks and Audio Books, select Catalog tab and then "Destiny Discover" in the left column.

2. DC PUBLIC LIBRARY (DCPL)

Our city's public library system offers hundreds of electronic databases and electronic books that cover the full gambit of information (and entertainment) needs.  All you need is an active DCOne Card or from the DCPL website, request a temporary card.

3. RSTAY LIBRARY LIBGUIDES  (See links below)

These pathfinders provide links to vetted websites, journal articles, videos, and more to support your research and recreational reading needs.  Two types of Libguides are available.  RSTAY LIBRARY WEBSITE, a general purpose site, with links organized by type and purpose.  It also links you to research supports such as citation and vetting apps. (Also, available on our library resource hub). RSTAY LIBRARY GUIDES , are single subject webpages which link you to a variety of perspectives in multiple information formats. Curated by our librarian, currently three (3) are available: Black History, Hispanic Heritage, and Current Events (more coming soon).

4. OUR LIBRARIAN - Ms. Gardner

Ms. Gardner is Roosevelt STAY's full time, certified librarian.  She is available throughout the regular academic day to help you with research, reading recommendations, and resource location support. She will also help you avoid plagiarism (i.e. how to write citations, identify false information) and more.  Drop in to see her, in the library, Wednesday mornings.  She is also available via Teams chat or by email. Just give her 24 hours to respond.
