Resources 101

There are a smorgasbord of resources at your disposal to not only meet but exceed your academic and curiosity needs. Allow me to help you narrow these many resources to what I think are the big three to get you started.

BIG 3

Destiny Discover (The Catalog)

Here you can browse what we have in the library, create and browse collections, check out e-items, reserve items, access academically vetted websites and much more. Simply log in using your credentials which you can find at the bottom of this box.

DCPL (Databases)

The DC Public Library is home to databases that will satisfy just about all of your research and curiosity needs. All you need is an active DCOne Card or to request a temporary one from the DCPL website. Log in credentials, as with the Catalog above, are located at the bottom of this box of info.

SORA via Clever

As simple as logging into Clever (click link above), SORA is home to an immense library of DCPS and DCPL e-books!! Definitely take advantage, log into Clever, scroll to Library Resources, select SORA by OverDrive (you will be able to search for the school by typing District of Columbia Public Schools or by using the access code DCPSDC) and start browsing! You can also download the Apple (Links to an external site.) or Android (Links to an external site.) app or, for even more info, check out the SORA video on the left column.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Clever

Login with your credentials (see below) and get access to a wealth of library resources, by logging in and scrolling down to Library Resources ont he left side navigation after hitting Portal up top, that may not be linked on this LibGuide.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Simply create an account with your DCPS email and be privy to a WORLD of creativity. With Creative Cloud, students and staff can create video shorts, design interactive animations for games or apps, edit photos, create graphic visual effects for films and build websites. Take advantage of the tutorials as some apps may need to be downloaded. I particularly like the animation app especially useful if you want to have a club or workshop for students that may want to learn how to create video games or apps they can potentially sell.

iCivics

Interactive website designed to engage students in meaningful civic learning. It contains games, lesson plans and videos. Access using your DCPS email and pw.

Smithsonian Open Access (Access thru Clever)

Very useful website for Social Sciences (and maybe Science as well). Users can browse this website to access primary source images to supplement their learning in World and U.S. History. There are also a few images that can be viewed as 3D models such as fossils.

Teaching Books (Access thru Clever)

Resource for students and educators with access to books, author interviews, book guides, activities and lessons. Books can be researched by categories such as "cultural representation" with even a few reader theater scripts available.
